chalkboard-3-AMaybe you’re a writer or perhaps an avid reader who wonders where writers get their ideas. I started thinking about this recently when I spoke to a friend who challenges herself to come up with one new picture book idea every day. Every day! How many picture book manuscripts did I think of last year? Easy answer. Twelve. My goal has been one new idea I develop into a manuscript each month.

Like other writers, I stay tuned in to life. I also pay close attention to everything my daughter tells me. (She’s nine, and although most parents have learned to tune out the nonsensical babblings of their kids by that age, I find her “babblings” spark story ideas. After all, she’s close in age to the group I’m writing for, so the things she takes notice of and gets curious about are the topics I need to focus on. I…

Intimate Poetry

Published February 6, 2015 by soccermermaid12

Words swimming in my head,

every nerve ending sparked and alive like fireworks.

So soft his voice, caressing me with every description

Every honest detail, covering me,

reaching every part,

a head to toe sensation.

My hearing being seduced by the inflections of his voice;

my voice responding in kind.

This act has no passive participants,

each of us alive with this sensation, wonder,

curiosity quipped and the temptation to unravel everything, so tempting.Screenshot (8)

But like skilled lovers we are

patiently taking everything at one step,

knowing when to demand, when to question, when to let its all go.

His mouth, his breathe mingled with mine,

a constant dance with each of us

leading and following, each of us

needing and wanting to know the other.

No dominant or submissive, both surrenders with no conqueror.

Just equal intellects using our minds, our hands, our eyes

to speak, to relate, to grab hold of one another,

penetrate each other, entering and allowing the other

to enter and find release in the knowledge that some understands.

Mind Fucked.

Intimate minds

It started off so simple. A few words to get ourselves comfortable with each other, a few questions to quip the interest. And as he started to speak and things began to unravel, it slowly started to happen.

There are those who used their voices like serpents, charmers trying to cloud and feed sweet words that worked to sooth girl’s insecurities. His voice, it didn’t cloud me with seduction, it awakened every want, made me feel alive and ready as no slow seduction and tease could. It was like he knew, he knew that this was what I crave. Not someone to hinder or dampen my senses but to awaken them, get them in tune with all around me.

Though there was traces of want and seduction, I was not a bystander. I was an active participant in his game. As his words came over me, touched me, I in turn replied, my voice flowing over him like water, my thoughts and my intelligence spilling onto him. I was not submissive nor was he dominant, but equal players in this game. It is not submission if both are in agreement and it is not dominating if both agree to disagree.

Oh, his words, they were such sweet caresses that I longed to hear, not charm and sweet sentiments that lashed at me and irritated my skin every time they hit me. I never told him but I didn’t have to. There was no falseness to his claims, how could there be when flaws were not hidden but presented, with no shame but understanding and a need to move on and let go. So vulnerable, baring it all.

And we were, as we continued to speak un-dress ourselves until we were both stripped down with scared and bruises shining black, blue, purple and pink. And those scars, those bruises, we did not avert from or replied with sympathy. We grabbed onto each other, sharing and understanding that pain, like a soft hand soothing but with a firm one grabbing each other, keeping us from the past, from the labeling and keeping from subjecting one another to comparisons of failure.

Closer and closer, our words wrapping around each other, not knowing where one started and one ended. My mind, every part of it, alive and focused on his. Nerve endings tingling, feeling by whole body come alive as if he had touched me but physical touches could not have done this. No, this hunger, this want, no this need, this intelligence wanton was not, could not be fulfilled, satisfied by the physical. If anyone could get any closer, get anymore intimate, we had achieved it. Our minds, colliding, coming together as one. Mind fucked.

YES! love me some Scandal! #TGIT

Fangirls Are We

scandalSo, I’m a little late to this party, but sure am glad I came. After having countless people recommend the show to me for quite some time, I finally decided to sit down and watch Scandal this past weekend. Holy cow, is this a quality television show. I’m now addicted, in love with Olivia Pope, and have lost all hopes of productivity until I finish every episode.

What We Forget While Writing

Published January 11, 2015 by soccermermaid12

Fiction All Day

There are plenty of things that we forget about while writing. Plenty of important details that slip our minds. At first you might think I’m referencing that time you forgot to pick your child up from school because you were writing a particularly engaging chapter, but I’m actually talking about things we forget in our actual story. I’m talking about things that pop up in our lives on a daily basis that, because they aren’t remarkable, we don’t think to mention.

I’m talking about:

  • Weather
  • A phone call from a friend
  • Needing to go to the bathroom
  • Needing to eat
  • Having to blow your nose or sneeze
  • Tripping over your own feet
  • Losing power
  • Having your car break down

And the list goes on.

That’s not to say these things should always be in your book. I don’t want to hear about it every time your character has to pee, or munches…

Punctuation–A Writers Curse

Published January 7, 2015 by soccermermaid12

I very much dread editing and grammar has never been my strong suit. I’m the idea person!

🌼Colleen Chesebro Fairy Whisperer 🌼

The more books I read, the more I want to check my own punctuation constantly when I write.  As a writer, I feel a responsibility to tell my story the best I can.  Punctuation is a necessary tool in getting your meaning across to your readers.  The most important thing to do is have a few cheat sheets.  I found one!

Pinterest is a great source of information on writing.  I found this graphic first and then went to Steam Feed where the graphic originally came from.  This is one of the best graphics I have seen and great for quick editing.

Thanks for stopping by today.  We have gale warnings posted for the Gulf Coast and freeze warnings are in effect for tomorrow morning.  Wind chills are predicted in the single digits.  A perfect time to stay inside and WRITE. SmileSignature
